Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel anticipates a close FA Cup final against Liverpool: Don’t expect crazy new things

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel said that his team’s upcoming FA Cup final against Liverpool on Saturday, May 14 at the Wembley Stadium could turn out to be a closely-fought affair. Earlier this year, Liverpool won the Carabao Cup final for a record ninth time after defeating Chelsea 11-10 in a dramatic penalty shootout.

However, Tuchel reckoned that his team has every chance of staging a comeback on Saturday. The veteran said that one shouldn’t expect something overly stupendous as both teams are pretty equally matched.

“Everything else would surprise me. It started with last season’s win at Anfield and started with very early this season with a draw at Anfield and then a draw at Stamford Bridge and then a draw over 120 minutes and 20-something penalties (in the League Cup final),” Chelsea boss Tuchel was quoted as saying.

A BIG FINAL

“So very close matches, very intense matches and we need it always, our very highest level to compete. But we found it in the matches and I don’t expect crazy new things from them and actually also not from us. So the game is on tomorrow, it’s a big final, a big competition and we want to be spot on,” he added.

Chelsea and Liverpool are also almost through to next season’s Champions League. But with a lead of 16 points for now, Liverpool are mostly set to finish above Chelsea in the Premier League points table.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, in the meantime, said that he has turned down Bayern Munich’s offer “a few times” to show his loyalty towards the Premier League club. Back in October 2015, Liverpool roped in Klopp at Anfield after Brendan Rodgers’ departure. Under the 54-year-old Klopp, the club is chasing a quadruple.

“Which club should I go to, to have a different situation? I could have gone to Bayern a few times, I could have won more titles in my life, pretty sure I would say – I didn’t do it,” Klopp was quoted as saying.

“I had a contract here… and that’s completely fine. The world is not full of winners, the world is full of triers hopefully. And I try and sometimes I win with some other people together. I am happy with that,” he stated.
