19-year-old Leylah Fernandez said that she is enjoying every bit of her outing in the French Open 2022 at Roland Garros. The teenager has already progressed to the third round after beating Czech Republic’s Katerina Siniakova 6-3, 6-2 on Thursday, May 26 on Court 6.

Fernandez managed to break her opponent five out of six times and secured victory in double quick time. However, despite winning, the youngster said she’s yet to be at her very best. She also talked about the difficulties she has faced while engaging in long rallies.

I CAN PLAY WELL

“I think it’s actually similar experiences. I’m just enjoying every moment on court. The crowd, French crowds, are amazing,” Fernandez was quoted as saying to the media.

“The only difference would be the surface. Clay is a little bit longer than hard, like the rallies are longer than on hard court. I’m just trying to keep working, and I guess I keep improving through the tournament,” she stated.

“But I’m just focusing on my own game. I have been trying to improve my game every single day, trying to get to a level where I think is deemed to be here at a top level,” she said.

“I will not say that today’s match was my best match, but I’m happy with my level of play. I know that I can play better. But with the percentage and my aggressiveness, I’m quite happy. I will try to work on that even more,” Fernandez added.

Fernandez, who lost to Britain’s Emma Raducanu in the US Open 2021 final at Flushing Meadows, will next lock horns with World No.14 Swiss star Belinda Bencic in the third round match on May 27 at Phillippe-Chatrier.

On Wednesday, May 25, Bencic knocked out 2019 US Open Champion Bianca Andreescu out of the tournament after winning in straight sets.
