Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has wished legendary Indian cricketer Ravi Shastri, who turned 60 years old on Friday, May 27. The 33-year-old Kohli and Shastri have worked together in the Indian team for more than four years since 2017. After Anil Kumble’s departure, Shastri joined the Men in Blue as their head coach and he stayed with the team until the 2021 T20 World Cup in the UAE.

Kohli and Shastri shared great camaraderie during their stint with the Indian team. Both of them spoke highly of each other. Under Shastri, India failed to win an ICC trophy, but won a number of bilateral series. Under Shastri, Team India also produced some lethal fast bowlers, including the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj.

On Friday, Kohli put up an Instagram story to wish Shastri on the latter’s birthday. He captioned the picture and wrote, “Happy birthday Ravi Bhai. Have a good one”.

KOHLI WISHES SHASTRI

Kohli has been going through a lean patch in his career over the last few months, having also not scored a century since the Day-Night Test against Bangladesh in November 2019. Back in April, Shastri said that Kohli has every right to take a break from the Indian Premier League (IPL) in order to take care of his international career.

“I think it (a break) is ideal for him because he has played non-stop cricket and has captained the side across all formats. It would be wise of him to take a break. Sometimes you have to draw the balance. This year he is already into the tournament (IPL 2022). Tomorrow, if push comes to shove and you want to prolong your international career and make a mark there for 6-7 years, pull out of the IPL, for all you care,” Shastri had said.
