David Miller turned out to be the hero for Gujarat Titans in a nerve-wracking Qualifier 1 of the Indian Premier League at the Eden Gardens on Tuesday, 24 May. The South African hit three sixes against Rajasthan Royals in the final over of the match to take Gujarat to their first final in the cash-rich league.

Miller, who remained unbeaten at 68 off just 38 balls, earned plaudits from his captain, who said that he was the most proud of the Protea in the entire team.

Speaking after the game, David Miller revealed that he was quite nervous during the chase and it was Hardik Pandya who calmed him down and chalked out the plan.

“I was a little bit nervous to be honest. But Hardik kept saying that let’s play good cricket shots and keep hitting the ball in the gaps. As you saw that he wasn’t running too fast. For me, I enjoy my running between the wickets pretty hard, I mean it ended up working out pretty well.”

“It was a quick outfield so it was probably the best call,” Miller added.

Speaking about the approach in the final two overs, Miller said that he wanted to hit the ball as hard as he could from the word go and it finally came off in the last over of the game.

“Hardik is a pretty cool, calm and collected bloke and he was pretty chilled about the chase,” Miller revealed.

The current IPL season has been a revelation for Hardik Pandya who used to be a flamboyant character even till the last year. Pandya has maintained his cool and calm throughout the tournament and hasn’t let the emotion get the best out of him. He has spoken about this 2.0 version of him during the tournament, stating that he cannot let himself get flustered as a captain because his team depends on him.

Gujarat Titans will now fly off to Ahmedabad for the final of the Indian Premier League scheduled to be played on 29 May.
