While the Eden Gardens crowd was waiting for a masterclass from Virat Kohli, it was Rajat Patidar who gave them plenty to cheer on Wednesday in the IPL 2022 Eliminator between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Lucknow Super Giants. Patidar, who came in as a replacement player for RCB in the ongoing season, smashed a 49-ball hundred and finished with 112 in just 54 balls as the former finalists posted a 207-run total.
On a day when their captain Faf du Plessis got out for a golden duck and Virat Kohli failed to convert his good start into something substantial, Rajat Patidar, the 28-year-old from Maharahstra, showed the world that he belongs to the big stage with a stunning knock.
Patidar smashed 7 sixes and 12 bounadries as hs launched into the Lucknow Super Giants bowlers.
With his 49-ball hundred, Patidar set a new record for the fastest hundred by an uncapped player in the IPL.
Patidar’s 112 not out is also the highest score for an uncapped player in the IPL knockouts history, which includes the final and the playoffs. He overtook Manish Pandey’s 94 from the final between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings in IPL 2014 final.
Patidar also joined an elite list of batters to have scored a hundred in the IPL playoffs.
