Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday, May 22 visited Umran Malik and congratulated the young India pacer for his selection to the senior national team for the upcoming 5-match T20I series against South Africa.
Manoj Sinha said Umran Malik has brought pride and glory to Jammu and Kashmir and his achievements will only inspire the youth in the region not just in sports but across other areas of human endeavour.
Umran Malik was rewarded for his stunning show in IPL 2022 for SunRisers Hyderabad with a maiden India call-up. The Srinagar pacer was picked in the 18-man squad which will be led by KL Rahul in the T20I series from June 9 to 19.
Lt Governor Sinha urged youngsters from Jammu and Kashmir to follow the footsteps of Umran Malik to bring more laurels to the region.
“As a sporting genius and a global sporting icon, Umran will continue to inspire our youth not only in sports but also in other areas of human endeavour,” Sinha said.
“Jammu and Kashmir has the potential to achieve excellence in international sporting events and the administration is committed to popularising a robust sports culture among children and the youth. I call upon our youth to develop a strong winner’s instinct,” he added.
The Lt Governor also thanked Umran Malik’s family and his parents for their sacrifices that helped him rise through the ladder in competitive cricket.
Umran has picked up 21 wickets in 13 matches for SunRIsers in the IPL 2022 and his ability to consistently clock speeds in excess of 150 kph made it impossible for the senior selection committee to overlook him.
