Rajasthan Royals finished second on the IPL points table after pushing Lucknow Super Giants to third position, thus ensuring their berth in Qualifier 1. The Royals’ victory over Chennai Super Kings in their final league match meant Lucknow will play the Eliminator against Royal Challengers Bangalore on May 25 in Kolkata.
Royals’ opener Jos Buttler holds the orange cap, having scored 629 runs in 14 innings so far. Meanwhile, the team’s leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has the purple cap as he has taken 26 wickets, the most in the tournament. Royal Challengers Bangalore’s Wanindu Hasaranga trails Chahal by just two wickets.
Former India cricketer Harbhajan Singh heaped praise on Rajasthan Royals for backing Ravichandran Ashwin throughout the 2022 season.
“Rajasthan Royals should be credited for showing faith in Ashwin’s all-round abilities and this is the best franchise to have ever made full use of R. Ashwin,” Harbhajan Singh had told Star Sports on the eve of Qualifier 1.
“They have understood the true potential of R. Ashwin and full credit to Ashwin for reposing the faith of the franchise as well.”
