  • Barcelona failed to qualify for the Champions League quarterfinal
  • Barcelona failed to win the La Liga as well
  • Xavi Hernandez sounded determined for the next season

Barcelona head coach Xavi Hernandez said that his team will be looking to bounce back stronger in the upcoming season. Barcelona hasn’t had the best of times of late as they failed to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Champions League. They finished third in Group E after garnering only two wins from their six matches.

They also failed to win the La Liga after finishing second below champions Real Madrid with 72 points from 36 matches. Hernandez mentioned that having already qualified for next year’s Champions League, Barcelona will look to make amends and put in a strong showing.

“There are many things still at stake. We are talking about players for the next season and our plans. But so far we’ve only achieved a single goal. A minimum one. We’ve entered the Champions League next season. We have another goal which is finishing second in the table and we have a small step ahead to get there. We have two games left and we need to finish that good sensations.

“Once we’ve achieved those goals, then of course, myself, the club’s president and everybody else would all like to know about our situation, mainly the financial one. To make real plans for next season so we can start making decisions,” Xavi was quoted as saying.

Hernandez admitted that Barcelona weren’t able to put their best foot forward in the ongoing season, thereby not being able to win a single title. The veteran was clear cut in saying that the team needs to get back to winning ways next time around.

“This season we’ve tried to compete. There were two months since I took charge of the team, I’m talking about February and March, when we thought we had chances to fight for a title. But we couldn’t get there. We didn’t compete well. And we must be self-critical. We must be demanding with ourselves because of the history of the club.

“Next season we must fight for titles. We are Barca and the only thing that counts here is to win. I’ve said it many times. We saved a bit our situation in Champions League by mid-season. But next season people will want much more form us,” he added.
